Mulled Port
A timeless winter indulgence that warms both glass and spirit. Crafted with Taylor’s Select Reserve Ruby Port, this aromatic blend of cinnamon, citrus, and spice transforms a classic Port into a comforting seasonal delight.
Ingredients:
For 6-8 people
1 bottle (750ml) of Taylor’s Select Reserve Ruby Port
(or Taylor’s Late Bottled Vintage)
1 orange, sliced into rounds
1 small lemon, sliced
3 cinnamon sticks
6 cloves
3 star anise
6 cardamom pods, lightly crushed
1 piece fresh ginger (about 3 cm), sliced thin
3 tbsp brown sugar (adjust to taste)
1 small glass (100ml) of Taylor’s Chip Dry White Port or brandy (optional)
Preparation method:
Combine all ingredients in a heavy-based saucepan.
Warm gently over a low flame until just below simmering point — about 70°C. Never let it boil.
Maintain this gentle heat for 20–25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Taste and adjust sweetness or acidity with a touch more sugar or lemon.
Strain through a fine sieve and serve in heatproof glasses, garnished with a cinnamon stick or slice of orange.
