Porto is one of Europe's most fascinating destinations. It is a city of rich history, stunning views, and unforgettable flavours. Whether you're exploring its historic streets, enjoying a riverside meal, or discovering the city's vibrant culture, there’s always something special to experience. One of the oldest settlements in Europe, Porto’s beautiful historic city centre is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Rich in history and tradition, Porto is also a vibrant and prosperous trading and commercial city, capital of the region which generates the greatest proportion of Portugal's industrial wealth and which has the country's largest concentration of population.

The word Portugal was derived from Porto's historic name, Portus Cale. Giving its name to Portwine, Taylor's origins are inextricably linked to this historiccity. The founders of Taylor's were the first English merchants to travel to the upper Douro Valley to source their wines. After this, the wine began to travel down the Douro Riverby boat to Porto and the city became the centre of the Port trade.
